I have always wanted to sit in a cafe and read a book. And I finally found the courage to do it. No mean feat. Haha..
I checked myself in to Starbucks after dinner today. Ordered Mango Passion Fruit and a chocolate cake. And immediately got lost in a book that I have enjoyed thoroughly.
"The Glass Castle" - a memoir by Jeannette Walls. An interesting book about a dyfunctional family. And what has happened in the growing up years of the four siblings and their parents.
Lovely book. It took me less than 3 days to finish it. Now I can start the next book.

Finally, the last of my birthday celebration ended yesterday.
I had so much feasting over the last one week.
Caught up with so many old friends.
Had such enjoyable time with them.
It was a very well-spent holiday break.
Some photos to prove my point.
With Ivy & Sueanne outside Citylink after feasting on Asian Kitchen & NYDC.
With Christine & Sherlyn at MOF in Bugis - the Jap desserts rocks.
With Juli & Darren at Uma Uma Men at City Hall.
With Ilango os Vivocity after dinner at Doc's Green - nice food and pretty waitress. Haha.
Tks to all my frens who met up with me and celebrated my bday.
And all your presents and well-wishes.
I thank God continuously for friends like you guys.

I have been spending alot of $$ on books lately. I have bought 6 books so far, just over the last 3 days. Got another 2 books for my birthday. Have another 4 books waiting for me to finish reading (I have started a few chapters each). So all in all, 12 books.
I know I will be kept very busy during this short holiday break. And I am enjoying every bit of it. I am determined to pack a book or two and head down to a cafe and read them while sipping my favourite drink.
My love for words started in my ITE days. I don't speak very good English then (not that I speak very well now. Haha). Fortunately, I got to know four very "ang-moh" frens. For a while, I felt intimidated in front of them. Yet, I am captivated by their use of the English language. And I knew that one day, I want to be able to speak like them.
Knowing my limitations, my friends didnt tease me. In fact, I recall fondly, how they often encouraged and praised me when I speak good English. That somehow, motivated me and begin my love relationship with words and reading.
The most important advice I got from my friends is never to fear speaking up or make mistakes and to put new words/phrases that I learnt into immediate use whenever I can. And it has produces positive results over the years.
I am encouraged by feedback from friends who read my prayer letters. That I have a interesting way of expressing myself and they have enjoyed reading it as much as I have enjoyed writing it. Maybe one day, when I retire, I shall write a book. Haha.
Dear God, thank you for giving me the capacity and ability to read and recognise words. Words are such important part of our life. They are the means by which we communicate with one another and with You. Help me not to take this ability for granted but to use it wisely and meaningfully.

Birthday card from my nephew, Rhys.
Let me explain a little. On the top left hand corner is my name or rather how he addressed me. The long hair gal with a bald head??? (haha) is me. I have no idea why my left hand is longer than my right. The top right hand corner is a flower in a box. The face below the box is my little sister and below her, the one with a bushy hair, is Rhys. The bottom left hand corner is a dragon spitting out fire.
You can't deny how creative children can be.
And how they expresses their imagination.
Thanks Rhys for the card.

Personal DNA Personality Test from Facebook
ABOUT MYSELF As a DESIGNER, you are receptive to ideas and experiences, and enjoy the beautiful things in life, yet you are also grounded and realistic about yourself and the world.
You have a quiet appreciation for beauty in all its forms – in nature, in people, and in human creations from architecture to movies.
Instead of only focusing on functionality, you try to incorporate your good sense of style and taste into your choices.
At times you feel unsure of yourself, especially when confronted by other people.
You aren't the kind of person who insists on having things your way all the time – you are willing to go along with other people's opinions, even if you disagree.
Others may not know this about you, but you are very interested in new ideas, thoughts, expressions, and experiences. You enjoy learning and trying new things.
Although you are practical, you are anything but boring – you have depths to you that others cannot see.
The idea of doing the same thing every day for the rest of your life scares you – you need more excitement and challenge than that!
You have a remarkable eye for detail and precision, noticing things that others miss.
You're not one to force your positions on a group, and you tend to be fair in evaluating different options.
You prefer to have time to plan for things, feeling better with a schedule than with keeping plans up in the air until the last minute.
You have a strong sense of style and value your personal presentation - friends may even seek your style advice from time to time.
Generally, you believe that you control your life, and that external forces only play a limited role in determining what happens to you.
It is quite true for most of the statements. Wow. Isn't that scary how a simple test can tell so much about me?? Isn't it more amazing that the One who made me, formed me this way?
HOW I RELATE TO OTHERS
Your awareness of those around you, along with your nuanced perceptions of the world at large, makes you the GENEROUS person that you are.
You value time to yourself and understand how rich your private world can be—you know that you don't have to go wild to have a good time.
You are excited and energized by ideas and often enjoy things more through observation than through experience.
This tendency gives you an appreciation for different perspectives and opinions about the world.
Being as aware of others as you are doesn't mean you find it easy to trust them immediately—this is something that happens more slowly for you.
Despite this, you are aware of the complexities of many situations and are reluctant to pass judgments on others.
Although you have fewer friendships than some people, those that you have are meaningful and are important to you.
You value spending time alone—it is while reflecting on the world around you that you often learn something new about yourself or begin to understand something that's been bothering you.
These above are equally true. Amazing. All of us are wonderfully and fearfully made by God!!

HOW GREAT IS OUR GOD (by Chris Tomlin - Hillsong London) The splendor of a King, clothed in majesty Let all the earth rejoice All the earth rejoice
He wraps himself in Light, and darkness tries to hide And trembles at His voice Trembles at His voice
How great is our God, sing with me How great is our God, and all will see How great, how great is our God
Age to age He stands And time is in His hands Beginning and the end Beginning and the end
The Godhead Three in One Father Spirit Son The Lion and the Lamb The Lion and the Lamb
How great is our God, sing with me
How great is our God, and all will see
How great, how great is our God
Name above all names Worthy of all praise My heart will sing How great is our God

I am reading "Living on the Ragged Edge" by Charles Swindoll now. Interesting book. It's supposed to be meant for those who are dying to know the ultimate secret for the 'good life'. For those who want to know how to find joy and peace in this world that has gone mad. A very down-to-earth book that draws lesson from Ecclesiastes.
An excerpt..
(page 105) "And then comes what our generation has termed the "midlife crisis". This has been described as a time of intense personal evaluation, when frightening and disturbing thoughts surge through the mind. We start questioning who we are and why we are here and why everything matters so much. It is a period of self-doubt and disenchantment with everything - everything familiar and stable. The mind plays tricks on us. We entertain terrifying thoughts that can't be admitted or revealed even to those closest to us. And, I repeat, our loneliness borders the unbearable."
It is exactly how I am feeling now, unfortunately.
(page 140) "What in the world is a vow if it isn't a commitment to accountability? What is a commitment if it isn't saying to our heavenly Father and to others, "I will carry this out, painful and difficult though it may be." Be careful about relieving all commitments so that you can be "free". That's dangerous. It is also unbiblical.
Don't decide now and deny later. Don't allow yourself to worm out of something you once took seriously in the presence of God. You haven't the right to say..
"You know what? Uh..that..commitment back then was a mistake" "I was pretty young back then. I guess it's what you'd call a 'youthful mistake'"
This is exactly what puzzled me - why we can be flippant with our promises.

Move On...Moving...Moved On
It gets harder and harder. Sigh. Especially when I found out about it. Why? Why? Why? I really can't do it. Why? Why? Why?

I was crying quite badly at yesterday's service. I was very touched by one of the song that we sang (I cant even remember the title of the song now). It says something like "In all seasons, I will still love You.." It just brought me to tears.
Images just flashed across my mind. Those seasons when I felt lost, confused, disillusioned, hurt and betrayed. Those times when I felt like giving up, even my own life. Because what I am going through has become too overwhelmed for myself. But it is also those same moments that I knew I have to turn to God. Those same moments where God has always remained by my side. I dont know what I will ever do without Him.
Then I remember those seasons when I felt most loved, cared for and protected. Those moments when God knew what I needed and sent them. Friends who called and caught up with me over meals. Friends who encourages and cheers me on. Friends who were just there for me.
Someone told me today that I am very fortunate to be surrounded by so many friends who loved me. I was? Yes I am. Perhaps I have failed to look around me. Failed to be thankful. For helps given to me in times of need. For all the wonderful time I had with my friends. For friends who bothered about me more than I bothered about them.
God, thank you for never leaving me alone. For being there for me in all seasons of my life. Forgive me that I have become inward looking when I should be looking up and around me.
Thank you for sending me friends, wonderful sisters and brothers. Thank you for telling me through them how much I am being loved.
Help me dear Lord to look at my abundance and not my lack. Help me to move on and not dwell on my past. Help me to surrender my life into Your loving hands.
Thank you Ben for bringing so much comfort to my broken soul.
Thank you kiddos for making Sunday such a enjoyable day.
